Team BJC National Squad Training Sessions

These sessions take place six times a year and are intense one day events that require a high level of physical fitness.  They are aimed at improving the performance of attending Judoka with a view to producing a team ready to compete in international events that the BJC enter.  The entry requirements are nominally that one must have gained a medal at one of the three National events (BJC Open Nationals, in May, BJC Welsh Nationals, in September and the BJC Closed Nationals in November) however, the course is open to anyone with the approval of your Sensei.

The requirements for entry into the team that compete internationally are proof of commitment to the squad which is measured by attendance at four out of the six sessions per year (minimum) and the gaining of a medal (preferably a Gold or Silver) at two of the three National Events.

Weight Adjustment

Attempting to lose weight for a competition is not a good idea. If you lose to much weight you will find it hard to compete because you will be:

- Lacking in stamina (you will not have enough energy to keep you going)

- Lacking in strength (you will risk losing muscle)

- Dehydrated (you will not have enough water to sweat and risk passing out from overheating)

If you have any concerns about your weight please discuss with your Sensei's prior to taking any action. We do NOT condone dieting it order to enter a lower weight group.
